What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is a normal link with a tag on it that tells the other company you arrived from here. If you then sign up or buy something, they may pay me a small commission. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid going there directly, often less, where a partner offers a discount.
How I decide what to recommend
The commission is never the reason. I only point people towards tools and services I would suggest to someone sitting in front of me. Most often free credit report providers, budgeting tools and the free debt charities, none of which pay me anything at all.
If I think something is a bad fit for you, I'll say so, whether or not there's a commission attached. If a product ever stops being worth recommending, the link comes down.
How affiliate links are labelled
UK advertising rules require paid relationships to be obvious, and I agree with that. Any affiliate or sponsored link will be clearly marked as such where it appears, not buried on this page.
